“I had the best experience while being there at the facility. I literally walked away with some amazing friends. I would not be where I am today without each and every one of you. The entire staff was so good to me. Y’all have not seen the last of me as my daughter and I will continue to visit. I hope with each visit you’ll see me getting even better and stronger.”
Betty B.’s rehabilitation journey started with great fear. Fear that she would never walk again and never be able to move back home. Prior to her admission at Salyersville Nursing and Rehab, Betty had been immobile in her home for around two months with no understanding of what was going on with her health. She finally sought help and spent nearly two weeks in the hospital. Betty was diagnosed with Polyneuropathy and was told she would need some intense therapy to regain her strength. Salyersville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center was happy to answer the call. Upon Betty’s arrival, she was unable to walk, care for herself or do the things she once loved. Betty was anxious and worried she would never leave. “The first few nights I laid in my bed and just cried, but then, something inside me changed and I reset my mind,” she shared. Betty realized she couldn’t live in her home if she wasn’t mobile, and she wanted to work to “be me again.”
Therapy pushed Betty to work hard as they knew she wanted to reach these newly defined goals. She expressed her anxiety about the therapy gym and all the equipment they had available. Betty laughs about it now, knowing that she eventually started to beat everyone to the gym in the morning, ready to put in the work. “The physical and occupational therapy staff came multiple times a day asking me to put in more work. They knew what I needed to regain my lost strength and worked hard to diminish my fears. We worked together on a plan to keep me moving forward,” Betty explained.
Betty says her three weeks at Salyersville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, “Saved Her Life!” She smiles while speaking of the staff at the center who treated her with such respect and dignity. “I am proud of the success I have accomplished, and while my journey is not over, here I am, WALKING back into the facility to visit the residents and staff that impacted my success and helped me to get back home.” Betty has set new goals for herself including writing a story for each of her grandkids and coming to spend time with friends she made while here at the center.
Betty and her therapy staff shared similar thoughts as to why her success at Salyersville Nursing and Rehab was so great. It boiled down to two things: determination and the right mindset. Jeanetta C, physical therapy assistant, says “Betty’s determination was a driving factor in her success. She used her time here to work hard, make friends, and find reasons to get better.” Betty leaves the center with an understanding of what she can accomplish and says her time here has forever changed her life. Betty is now an ambassador for Salyersville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and shares, “I will ONLY ever come back to SNRC!”
