Historically individuals with speech and language impairments have struggled to connect and communicate with others. Speech-language pathology resources have surged in recent years, allowing people who need help to seek treatment much more easily without stigma.
The American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA) includes professionals such as speech-language pathologists, audiologists, and speech/language/hearing scientists. Formally known as Better Hearing and Speech Month since the 1970s, ASHA is proud to announce a new name this year: National Speech-Language-Hearing Month. The new name is similar to the main organization and focuses on inclusiveness by dropping the word “better.” Annually observed in May to promote awareness about speech and hearing disorders, the ultimate goal is to assist with the prevention of hearing loss, and to encourage people to seek treatment for hearing and speech-related issues. By sharing information on the official ASHA website, this group does their best to highlight resources and life-altering treatment for communication disorders.
